Dixie the Ducato

Introducing Dixie!

This is Dixie. Acquired from a gas man in Fethard-On-Sea (and named for him too), she is a 1997 Fiat Ducato and she is our new home!

Dixie

We’ve been living in Dixie about two weeks now, staying on beachfronts and on promenades, in friends driveways and gardens. The kitchen is well kitted out with a two burner gas stove and grill, a mini fridge and lots of storage. The bathroom has a good shower (also on gas) and a chemical toilet. The bench seats fold out to make a giant comfortable nest of a bed! So far its been cosy and warm as we’ve been travelling around Ireland. Dixie needs a good service and a couple of adjustments before we leave to take the kid to university in York on the 22nd Sept. We are installing solar panels to keep the batteries topped up all the time.

The best part of this adventure so far has been waking up to a new view every day. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it. I might be a little biased, but Ireland is one of the most scenic parts of the world. We’ve been so lucky so far, and long may that last!

If you have any questions about van life, leave them for us in the comments. We will post a video soon of the inner workings of the van as there are some really cool fittings and space saving features. Right now we are having too much fun!
